Who doesn’t love a good old Sunday drive? Next time you’re on one, be sure to head to one of these great fruit picking places near Sydney. It’s such a wholesome fun family day out that the kids will just love. The fruit tastes amazing and lasts so much longer when it’s picked fresh. So without further ado, here’s a round up of my favourite places to go fruit picking near Sydney.
Pine Crest Orchard is a family run business that has been around for more than 40 years. Their lovely orchard is located in beautiful Bilpin. Everyone is welcome to come and pick persimmon, cherries, apricots, Pink Lady apples, Granny Smith apples, chestnuts, peaches, plums, pears and berries depending on the season. No bookings are required and there is a small entry fee. Dogs are also welcome if on a lead. Be sure to check out their website to see what’s in season for picking. I recommend grabbing one of their tasty home-made apples pies and other delicious baked goodies made with fresh fruit from the orchard.
Another great fruit picking spot is Bilpin Fruit Bowl. Here you can also pick your own strawberries all year round and there’s apple and stone fruit depending on the time of year that you go. What’s great is that their strawberries are undercover so you can go strawberry picking no matter the weather. There are entry fees and while bookings aren’t necessary I do recommend doing so as it can get busy on weekends.
A family favourite of ours and also located near Sydney is TNT produce. They’re a family run business that has been around for over 50 years. We love this fruit picking place as their parking is usually pretty easy and after picking the freshest fruit around the kids like to check out the farm animals. They’ve got alpacas, goats, chickens, ducks, birds and sheep which they love to visit. TNT also sell local produce such as eggs, jams and honey. We always grab some Bilpin Cider (apple and blood orange is my personal fave) to take home. It’s the perfect day out.
My next recommended fruit picking spot near Sydney is for the orange lovers. Pick Your Own Oranges Dooralong is located on the Central Coast and their Valencia oranges are super sweet. We always pick more than we need so we often give some away to family and friends. This is a great place to go fruit picking not just because it’s not far from Sydney but because they’ve got chairs and tables available and lots of space to have a nice picnic with the family. They’ve also got juicers so for a small fee you can juice your pickings on the spot and head home with litres of the freshest orange juice.
Another fruit picking farm located on the Central Coast is The Giving Farm. You can pick your own delicious organic blueberries and flowers from their farm in Jilliby. They have eight different kinds of blueberries and you can pick Lillies and Cornflowers. The Giving Farm offer animal farm experiences, so you can cuddle, feed and pat their dairy goats, babydoll sheep and chickens. They also offer Art on the Farm sessions which are run by a wonderful art teacher. Classes have a maximum of six children and they can paint animals and flowers from the farm. Definitely worth checking out!
Canoelands Orchard is not far away from Glenorie. Here you can pick fresh mandarins, oranges, tomatoes, persimmon, lemons and limes. Bookings are essential and they offer tractor rides and animal feeding which is great fun for the kids. If you didn’t bring along a picnic and start feeling peckish, there’s a cafe available. You can preorder a delicious high tea as well as grazing or dessert boxes.
